Summer calls for a lot of things—a lazy afternoon swing in the hammock with a great book, romantic picnics under the stars, ice cream socials with friends—but tops on our list is one-piece ease. Think a simple sundress, or a roomy tote bag that goes from the office to the beach and on road trips with equal aplomb. So as the temperatures start their inevitable climb toward midsummer, we’re reaching for the ultimate plus-one in sleeping comfort: the bedspread.
Lightweight, versatile, and breezy, bedspreads come in a variety of fabrics and weights that are perfect for summer snoozing. And with details such as lacelike stitching, wide mesh weaves, and ruffles or gathers, they add laid-back sophistication to both master and guest bedrooms.
We like to use a bedspread with just a crisp cotton sheet set on hot summer nights, and layer in a blanket or throws on rainy weekends or at the end of the season, when the thermometer starts to dip. Bedspreads even transition beautifully into fall with the addition of a quilt or a plush down duvet, making for year-round versatility in both warm and cold climates.
Now our only dilemma is choosing just one . . .
