White and ivory are the most popular choices for window treatments – and for good reason! The most versatile neutrals, white and ivory go perfectly with any style of décor, soften the room and add a bit of privacy too.
When choosing between the two, there are no hard and fast rules on which color to pick, but there are some helpful guidelines.
Start with Undertones
Many bright whites have cool undertones, while ivories tend to have a range of yellow or green undertones. Most designers suggest taking a good look at the color of the painted trim on the window that’s being dressed and choosing the same color panel—so bright white panels for white trim and off-white/ivory panels for trim that’s ivory.
If the trim isn’t painted, let your wall color guide you. White curtains work well with both warm and cool wall colors. Ivory panels are a bit less stark and work well with warmer-colored walls.
Consider the Feel
Both white and ivory window panels add a light breezy feel without detracting from other décor in the room. Ivory tones tend to impart a bit more warmth and softness than their white counterparts, while true whites add a bright a crisp, clean feel to the space.
What about you? Are you more of an ivory fan or do you prefer a crisp white?
