Tried & True Paint Colors: California Cool Hues

The phrase “California Cool” instantly puts you at ease, no? Well, that’s exactly what these beautiful paint colors, inspired by the California coast, will do in your home.

Farrow & Ball
De Nimes

The paint color is Farrow & Ball De Nimes and I chose it because I wanted a darker color for our bedroom and wanted a blue-ish-green-ish color to match the color in the wallpaper I chose for the attached bathroom.

Sherwin Williams
Sleepy Hollow

I picked this color—Sleepy Hollow by Sherwin Williams—because I loved how it played off the subtle blue tone of this rug. It felt fresh and created a bold impact while also remaining very affordable. I love how they work together to make a happy entrance to our home!

Sherwin Williams
Needlepoint Navy

Our clients wanted a calming retreat for their primary bedroom. We think blue is such a calming color and we use it all the time as a neutral. Because they wanted their space to feel light and bright, we opted to go with a warm white on the rest of the walls, but then add a punch with the Needlepoint Navy color. The accent wall adds dimension, color and interest. And it compliments their bedding, art and other furniture just beautifully!

Farrow & Ball
Inchyra Blue

We wanted this boys’ room to feel cozy and unique. The fabric on the windows was the starting point for the room and the paint colors came from the colors in the design. The contrasting trim color adds charm and fits with the Tudor architecture in the home.

Sherwin Williams
Pewter Cast

This mudroom was adjacent to a butler’s pantry, and we chose three different gray colors for this area. We love painting cabinetry. These cabinets were originally white and felt very disjointed from the rest of the space, so we painted them in Sherwin Williams’s Pewter Cast. By incorporating several layers of gray we feel it brings a more customized look to the custom cabinets.

Farrow & Ball
Inchyra Blue

We chose Farrow and Ball Inchyra Blue because our client knew they wanted a neutral stair runner, but with a little more interest and fun than just the stairs being neutral. Our company gravitates toward neutrals with pops of blue and we thought that this stair rail was the perfect opportunity to inject a little bit of interesting color in an unexpected way. With the high-gloss blue, it really becomes a conversational/focal point right upon entry of the home. The rest of this house is accented with bright punches of fun color, so the blue rail helps to set the stage for the other spaces.

Benjamin Moore
Wythe Blue

The color of this bedroom is Benjamin Moore's Wythe Blue. My inspiration for this space was creativity and curiosity. I felt like this color could be a wonderful soothing canvas to layer with colors, patterns and vintage finds. The boys who sleep in this room are 2 and 6 years old, so I also was trying to maintain the sweetness of a toddler while also being cool enough for a first grader. I feel like this color really allowed us to accomplish that.

Dunn Edwards
Downpour

I chose Downpour by Dunn Edwards for our kitchen because I wanted to bring the blue skies of Santa Monica indoors to make the kitchen feel more expansive. Our home was 1500 square feet so I had to pull out every trick in my interior design arsenal to make our home feel spacious.

Benjamin Moore
Decorator's White

The paint color in this room - and throughout the home - is Benjamin Moore Decorator's White, one of my go-to whites for historic houses. A soft white with grey undertones, it gives this parlor a sophisticated look and reinforces a relaxed and tranquil mood.

Sherwin Williams
Languid Blue

This space was for a young boy to grow into a man and we felt a calming blue that brings the outside in and provides serenity and a sense of calm at the end of a long day was the direction we needed to pursue! Languid Blue by Sherwin Williams was the most perfect shade—not too dark but the right amount of warmth and richness. It completely brought the room together just as we imagined it!
