When we saw this easygoing, light-filled Southampton beach house on the pages of Hamptons Cottages & Gardens, we were immediately taken with the refined, shades-of-gray palette contrasted with all the rustic wood touches—like the wide-plank floors, the barrel lamp in the far-left corner, the log end tables, and the custom reclaimed-wood and glass dining table by Lennegan & Marantz. And while we’re crazy for the cushy gray Jayson Home nailhead-trim sofa that acts as a divider between the living and dining spaces, the woven dining chairs sourced from a Paris flea market, and the mostly unadorned whitewashed pine walls, we’d love to see a bit more pattern or color in the dining area.
Which got us thinking about rugs, and how they can really dress up a space. So we tried out a few different patterns, colors, and materials. Check out our handiwork.
Which of these Dash & Albert beauties would you put in this room? Leave us a comment for your chance to win a warm, spicy, and FREE 4’ x 6” Montana Stripe woven cotton rug from Dash & Albert. The contest runs from now until 11:50 p.m. EST on November 28, 2012. View the full details.
Congratulations to our winner, Lisa from Rhode Island!

While I like the pop of colour that the Montana offers, I think I’d be able to live with the Kaledo Grey on the floor much longer!
I like the first one best…the plain tin charcoal. But for MY house, definatly the Montana Stripe!
They all add warmth and life to the space, but I prefer the first one over the others. (PS I’d also like to swap the chandelier for something simpler)
I like Montana Stripe the best as it offers a beautiful warmth to all the cool colors and also offers the chance to add a pop of color in various hues down the road…to create balance….
THEY ALL LOOK GREAT BUT I FAVOR THE MONTANA STRIPE
The Plain Tin Charcaol is my favorite!
I would put the Plain Tin Charcoal in this room. Sophisticated, but still fun!
Definitely the Plain Tin Charcoal – creates such a restful palette.
Fun to see everyone’s preferences. Definitely the Montana Stripe for me! No doubt about it!
Plain Tin Charcoal hands down!
Because it needs a little touch of humor/whimsey, I would opt for the stripe. Those terrified of color on the floor …Kaledo.
I think the Plain Tin Charcoal looks the best. Love the Montana rug!
The design and warm colors of the Montana pull us into the house, while picking up on the green of the grass outside and the range of wood color statements made by the end tables, the barrel lamp, wood basket, coffee table, and the dining room chairs. The Montana grounds the room and wonderfully reflects the lines of the window casements, dining and end tables, while creating an “additional” dining area.
I vote for Montana, gives the room the hum of warmth that it needs. Since it is on the floor, it also does not overwhelm but works with the cooler tones elsewhere in the room.
Montana all the way. Stripey delightfullness!
I would choose the Montana but I am always more partial to color in a room.
I’d use the Kaledo Grey, it would look great under the dining table and has great texture!
The Montana for sure, the stripes move you across the space.
LOVE the Montana. Just the splash of color that the room needs. (I would also love a lil’ Montana for our daughter’s newly updated room.) 🙂
I personally really like the kaledo grey! I think it adds to it without taking anything away, as the others do. great rugs and thanks so much for the opportunity to enter the giveaway!
Love them all! Different choices for different seasons!
I myself think the room is beautiful, but me? I wouldn’t put dark rugs on that beautiful dark floor. I’d go with shades lighter (tan, coffee,.etc..) to bring the darker floor color out more, also to accentuate the outdoors scenery. Looking through those windows to the gorgeous outdoors, seeing natures colors I would bring them inside. Maybe a small lime green pillow on each sofa, maybe a matching rug (lime) in the living room. Could even go with a different lamp in the far left corner, something like tall white wooden with a soft pink lamp shade (to bring out the color of that pink tree outside to the right). But I wouldn’t do pink with lime. 🙂 … Though to pick a rug? I’d go with the Montana.
The Montana is just what that room needs
Montana Stripes wins my vote! The warmth of the colors combined with lengthening stripes is most visually appealing for the space. I want this rug in my bedroom!!!
Montana Stripe…brings the outside in!
I’d have to go with Montana!
I personally like the Montana the best, simple and doesn’t compete
with the view!!
Love the stripes! While not Montana, it would go so well in our Colorado mountain home. It almost matches my Dash & Albert bag!
I’d put the Montana in the room for sure – the lines would draw your eye right to that AMAZING view.
Love the warmth of the Montana rug.
I love the decorating ideas you give us. They make me think differently about the spaces I have. I love the bright splashes of color
Love Love Love Love
I love the Montana, the stripes add movement and color, both of which this beautiful room would benefit from.
I like the montana best, but I always like anything that adds color!
I’m digging the Montana rug. It adds just the right warmth and punch of color.
Definitely the Montana!
Plain tin charcoal——far from plain!
Montana! Love the color POP – The room needs a little Happy in it:)
I like the pop of color from the Montana rug but the plain tin charcoal looks great too.
The first one is the winner
Montana
Montana,for that pop of color
The Montana rug brings vitality to the room! It adds a little tension to all the muted colors. Zing! goes the strings of my heart.♥♥♥
Love the Kaledo Grey in that room.
Montana! It is the perfect pop of color the room needs, and complements the casual tone beautifully.
I love and pick the stripe tug for the room above. A punch of color is just what this room needs. The living room could use it too.
The Montana adds great color to the room.
plain tin charcoal. It is subtle and keeps with the peacful feeeling this room emits.
The Montana stripe rug adds some color and fun into the room. As much as I like the look of the simplicity of whiteness, I could not live without color in my home.
I think the Plain Tin Charcoal looks best in this room.
I would go with the Montana. The long stripes in contrasting colors give the room the best depth and really feel like the 2 spaces are divided.
The Madison rug doesn’t fight the other rug, gives the room a grounded feeling. Plus it pulls the warm tones in from the wood in the room. Just looks finished with the Madison so that’s my choice.
The Montana is ideal with it’s pop of color and strip lines that mimic the lamp, tables and crate. The warm tones work exceptionally with the natural elements in the room. Love what you do! 🙂
While I covet both gray rugs, the space definitely needs the Montana color.
I love both the Montana and the Kaledo Grey designs!
I love the plain tin charcoal rug – beautiful!
Of course, they are all stunning; I’d use them all and switch out seasonally!
Definitely Montana hands down! Love the pop of color!!
