MODERN MINIMALIST QUILTS – ISN’T THAT AN OXYMORON?

Nope. Victoria van der Laan explains.

“You can find quilts from the past two hundred years that are super high art – minimal and two-color. Quiltmakers in Gee’s Bend, Alabama have been doing it for generations.

I don't think that invalidates the work or makes it wrong, I just think that when artwork is clearly inspired by something that already exists in the domestic realm, it ought to be recognized: A quilt is a piece of art that keeps your family warm.”
