Annie’s new Gradation design world is getting lots of attention these days (just check out Maxwell’s Daily find on Apartment Therapy), and for great reason: it’s an easy, sumptuous look that’s full of depth, warmth, and coziness. If you’re a fan of neutrals, it’s an especially nice way to venture beyond beige and into a range of goes-with-anything greys, from smoke to shale and gunmetal. Here are Annie’s simple tips for getting the look at home:
- Layer textures and patterns. Inviting, touchable textures keep the greys from seeming chilly, and a mix of texture and pattern in the same palette gives a rich, chic feel. Annie loves a smooth cotton duvet paired with a linen spread and shams, or a cozy, drapey matelassé combined with a plush, luxe bedcover and piles of pillows. The possibilities are almost endless!
- Pop it. Contrast darker greys against white or ivory, or toss in a brightly colored accent, like a decorative pillow or a throw in fuchsia, for maximum impact.
- Go for a neutral fusion. Don’t be afraid to mix grey with tan, khaki, and sand tones for added visual depth.
- Don’t forget the details. What makes your bedroom décor really stand out? The attention to special details like pintucks, topstitching, quilting, embroidery, and embellishments. These elevate the look from subtle to sensational, and are easy to accomplish in both the focal pieces (think duvets) and the accents (like decorative pillows).
