As Annie likes to say, a scarf isn’t just an accessory; it’s a way to give a variety of basic pieces a fresh new look without spending a lot of money. So we called on one of the most fashionable people we know, our graphic designer Emily, to put together five completely different looks all featuring Annie’s über-popular Ladder scarf.
We love this scarf’s versatility and it’s bright, multicolor stripe that goes with pretty much everything. Keep scrolling to see how Emily is rocking it this season.
1. Weekend 1
We can’t resist a shorts-and-blazer combo, and this one is particularly fun. A drapey white tank and khaki boyfriend blazer top off a pair of spotted neutral shorts. The persimmon loafers perfectly echo the stripes in the scarf, which is tied in a basic loop, with the ends hanging long.
2. Casual Weekday
With a basic two-tone palette, the scarf really shines here. It doesn’t get much simpler than a white wrap shirt with a pair of narrow capris in bright orange and gold metallic loafers. Pile on an oversize watch and a stack of gold bangles, and keep the earrings small—all the better to show off the scarf, which is wound around the neck twice, with one end tucked under and the other left loose.
3. Weekend 2
Take a T-shirt and jeans up a notch: pair dark-wash skinnies with a loose-fitting graphic tank in complementary tones, and add some bright blue sling-backs for color. Top it all off with a rhinestone collar necklace, a neutral clutch, and the scarf draped over the shoulders and left open.
4. Dressed Up
This outfit hits all the right notes: fun and eye-catching, modern, and figure-flattering but not overtly sexy. Pair an easy-peasy colorblock sheath dress with simple gold wedges and a coordinating orange satchel. Wind the scarf three times and tuck the ends underneath for a faux-funnel-neck look.
5. Office Chic
For this crisp look, mix plain white skinny jeans and a navy blazer. Add a blouse in a subtle gray print, and echo the color with these fab flat laser-cut brogues (love the yellow laces!). The jewelry is simple—a white rope necklace and metal stud earrings. Drape the scarf over the shoulders, and pick up a contrasting hue—in this case, a hot tangerine—in a simple satchel.
