There’s an app for everything—or so the thinking goes. But when it comes to design and decorating apps, the results have been kind of meh. Until now. We’ve got your guide to four apps guaranteed to make your décor adventures a little easier—and a whole lot more fun.
Billing itself as “a place for makers,” this free app and Web service is the go-to for DIY fanatics. Find step-by-step instructions in a variety of categories, including cooking, gardening, home repairs, hair styling, and entertaining. Want to learn how to make the perfect candy apple? Get the deets here. Yearning to make Polaroid-style coasters out of your Instagram snaps? Got that, too. Need to make your own studio lamp to light your blog photos? Snapguide’s got you covered, and you can even embed the guide on your WordPress site. The app is available only for iOS at this time, but Android users can bookmark the website to explore the many step-by-step tutorials online.
Friends don’t let friends go without purchasing info for their decorating finds. That’s the idea behind this new app from its namesake website, a community-curated décor hotspot. With the NousDecor app, you can take pics of any home product and comparison shop for a similar look across more than 100 sites—perfect for when you’d rather not drop $10,000 on a sofa you spied at the boss’s house. You can also browse mood boards and read decorating tips from experts. The app is for iPhone only at the moment, but the creators promise an Android version within the year.
Who doesn’t love photos of their friends’ travel, kids’ or pets’ antics, kitchen creations, reno projects, and more? But don’t we love them a little more when there are, ahem . . . fewer of them? Pic Stitch will help you cut the Instagram or Facebook clutter by creating collages—in hundreds of layouts—of your favorite photos. It also allows you to apply effects to, rotate, and crop your photos, and has a handy export function so you can order prints of your best collages.
From one of our favorite resources for inspiring interior design comes this app. It’s basically a subscription-based or pay-per-issue downloadable version of the eponymous magazine, which is hard to find in the United States. And it’s entirely in Spanish. But even if you don’t speak the language, if you’ve fallen in love with the site, as we have, you’ll want to get a gander at Nuevo Estilo’s never-ending well of design goodies.
