Everybody’s definition of romance varies—think Casablanca versus Sideways. But when it comes to putting together a romantic bedroom, there are a few elements we can all agree on.
The most romantic rooms start with a bit of provenance—a distressed wood headboard, for instance, or a lamp covered in gold leaf and topped with a beautiful linen shade, or the vintage-inspired print of falling plumes on the duvet. Just like fish, we’re drawn to shiny things (they’re the “jewelry” of a room), so we incorporated both the lamp and a side table covered in gold leaf. The leaf print on the pillows lends a gentle, natural quality.
But the bedding—dreamy, flowy, and soft—gets our undivided attention here. Underneath that vintagey duvet we’ve tucked ivory sheets with a sweet-as-pie mini ruffle. The diamond-embossed matelassé, in the color of a sensual, ripe plum, is a beautiful counterpoint to the lightness of the room and adds a bit of textured detail. The overall look is easy, soft, and inviting, while still modern and unfussy. Does it get any more romantic?
