Lately we’ve been feeling like our weekend casual wear has become more routine than a Pilates workout. A pair of skinny jeans, an oversized sweater, riding boots, a trench, a knit beanie, and some silver stacking rings—it’s an easy outfit, to be sure, but it needs a break from our winter closet rotation. Since we’re enjoying a bit of a warm-up in these parts (well, it’s 27 degrees instead of -5. Can you blame us for being hopeful?), we’ve decided to lighten up with a look that’s winter appropriate—thanks to a toasty wool scarf in a stunning pattern and coat in an all-new silhouette—but that feels as refreshing as spring rain showers.
We used Annie’s Asian Blue scarf—a modern take on a traditional Japanese brushstroke design—as the basis of a winter white–and-blue palette. Since we wanted to keep the look casual, we opted for denim, but eschewed our go-to dark skinnies for this pair in off-white. We topped them with a loose-fitting indigo polka-dot top with cute tab sleeves, and added low, sidewalk-friendly inky suede heels with a sweet pom-pom embellishment.
And when we saw the futuristic shape of this ivory wool coat . . . Is it wrong to eat, work, and sleep in your outerwear? Because we’re not sure we want to take it off. For a sleek European look, we added this structured satchel in mottled blues, and could’ve easily stopped here. But we wanted to make the most of the coat’s bracelet-length sleeves by adding a stack of mismatched, gold-tone bangles in different shades of aqua, navy, and lapis. Perfect for everything from errand running to lunch with your parents to a night at the movies.
