Tropical Twist: A Juicy New Take on Toile

As the Pine Cone Hill 20th anniversary continues and the Anniversary Collection hits store shelves, we’re taking a behind-the-scenes look at how Annie created some of her most famous bedding and home décor accessories. Tiki Toile—originally released as printed sheets—is one of those signature pieces that customers have been clamoring for, so it was naturally at the top of Annie’s list for reissues.

Tiki Toile was Annie’s second try at a printed sheet. In 2002 while on one of her shopping and scouting excursions, she uncovered a late-1800s document featuring a Polynesian-esque tropical toile. Back at the office, she decided to test her newfound Photoshop skills by removing the busier parts of the pattern. Tickled with the sweet-and-sassy result, she went a step farther by recoloring it from its original, traditional red-and-ivory palette to and eye-catching mix of fuchsia and stark white, and later added sprout-and-white and wisteria-and-white colorways. All three became instant best-sellers.

For Pine Cone Hill’s 20th anniversary, Annie wanted to turn up the volume on Tiki Toile. She recolored it in a juicy tangerine, which gives a pop of summer-iffic color to neutrals (we especially love it with pale grey). But it also takes bright decorating—think of pairing it with fuchsia, indigo, turquoise, and magenta—to a whole new level. And it’s now available as both a sheet set and a duvet cover and shams, so you can choose whether to showcase this happy pattern on top of the bed, or let it peek out from underneath a bright bedspread or matelassé coverlet, as Annie has done here.

If you love the Tiki Toile pattern but prefer a neutral colorway, you’re in luck: Annie has also created a grey-on-white version that we’ll take a closer look at in the weeks to come. And don’t forget the sleepwear! We’re crazy for all the new nightgown and nightshirt silhouettes, but when it comes to all-day ease, we can’t get enough of this adorable tank and lounge pant combo, in a soft, drapey, breathable blend of washable cotton and Modal that’s universally flattering on a range of body types.

Tickled by toile? In honor of this exciting reissue, Annie’s giving one lucky reader a Tiki Toile Tank Top and Lounge Pant in their choice of Grey or Sky from Pine Cone Hill! Check out the Rafflecopter entry form below for 4 easy ways to enter! Contest ends on Sunday, June 29 at 11:59 p.m. EST. View the full details.
