Summer Makeover Madness

It’s that time again, when we round up the blog world’s best in furniture and accessory makeovers. Browse our picks, get inspired, then click over for simple how-to’s that just might transform that dated old lowboy from Great-Aunt Tilly that’s buried in your basement into the centerpiece of your dining room . . . or living room . . . or, well, you get the point.

Seen a terrific transformation on another blog? Share it in the comments, and don’t forget the link!

We’re beginning to think that Shabby to Chic Designs can do no wrong when it comes to choosing and refinishing furniture. Case in point, this curvaceous, vintage-cool desk, which gets an incredible style upgrade with a bit of antiqued paint and effects, and some eye-catching drawer pulls.

If ever there was a sad, fugly old armchair in desperate need of a complete overhaul, Décor Girl may have just found it. Check out her spirited, inspirational take (love that turquoise piping!) that we’d be proud to show off in just about any room.

Love the look (and practicality) of a tiled tabletop, but think it’s too difficult or messy to do at home? Think again. This basic table, from Design Megillah for Pretty Handy Girl, gets a cool, high-end vibe, thanks to a little gold paint and inexpensive tile sheets.

Ever spy a metal candle lantern in a store and wish you could magically transform it into a chandelier? Mandy at Vintage Revivals is just the sorceress to show you how it’s done.

We can’t get enough of outdoor entertaining, but the plain-Jane furniture options sold at most stores? Not so much. Which is why we flipped over this adorable—and ridiculously easy—painted and stenciled outdoor table from All Things Thrifty.

This purple-icious vanity may have gotten the teenager-pleasing treatment from the Not So Modern Family blog, but we think the concept is fab and can be applied to more adult-friendly combos. All you need are a tired old piece of furniture and two poppy, high-contrast colors, and voilá—a lively, modern look that will perk up any room.
