Sleek & Bright Girl’s Room Inspiration by Laura U Interior Design

“I wish I could find great bedding and accessories for my daughter’s room that doesn’t have Disney princesses all over it.” If we had a nickel for every time we’ve heard this lament, we’d have enough cash to design an entire mansion full of girl’s rooms . . . and we’d make sure one of them looked like this bright, spunky, but not overdone bedroom by Laura U Interior Design, an award-winning firm out of Houston.

What gives this room its punch is the tasteful use of bold hues against bright white and the deep walnut, grounding tone of the floors. The design is simple and streamlined, with interesting silhouettes, just a few major elements, a handful of cheeky accents, and lots of open space.

The vintage-look geometric area rug makes a great starting point; not only does its mix of peppy colors tie the room together, but its hard angles also help to keep the room from looking overly feminine. The sunny yellow ceiling is a terrific, unexpected touch (especially against the white, petal-style chandelier), and we love how the designers picked up the hue in the painted storage nightstands and throw.

And what girl wouldn’t love an upholstered sleigh bed in a gorgeously grown-up orchid? Laura U’s designers contrasted it with a mix of white and yellow bedding and teal accents—the decorative pillows, the shapely lamps—for a fresh, fun take on “girly” colors. The contemporary, dish-shaped art installation above the headboard balances the wall height perfectly. We’re also smitten with the reading nook formed by the sleek, Mod armchair and matching ottoman in cherry red and the brass photographer’s lamp. Add in a few whimsical bird and butterfly accents, and it’s a look that’s a little bit sweet, a whole lot sassy, and perfectly suited to a budding stylista.
