We’re Sensing a Pattern: Color Palette Inspiration

The thought of a fresh new color palette is so exciting, it makes us feel like Santa has dropped down the chimney a couple of seasons early. So today we’re breaking out the cookies and milk, because one look at these new Lyric bedding coordinates, area rugs, and accessories, and we knew we’d been given an incredible gift: the foundation for about a bajillion (it’s a technical term—we checked) room color combos that can go from fall through summer with a few simple switch-outs.

Lyric, part of Annie’s Pine Cone Hill fall 2014 collection, comes in two gorgeous patterns. The first is Lyric Stripe, a narrow, classic menswear pattern in neutral grey stripes pepped up with unexpected shades of yellow, aqua, and tangerine. Here Annie paired the cotton duvet with white sheets, a slate matelassé coverlet, and textured shams the shade of the summer sky. The walls and furniture are all a creamy, warm white.

In the second look, she swapped out the neutral matelassé for one in a peppy tangerine, and propped a pair of tiger lily–hued Euro shamsbehind them. It’s an easy way to go from the cooler blues and greys of the first look—perfect for fall and winter—to a warm, energizing ambience for spring and summer. For the walls, Annie chose an ivory background with hand-stamped stars in orange.

The second take on the pattern, Lyric Paisley, features a classic Indian-inspired design in an updated, sunny palette of lemon, azalea, turquoise, and persimmon, plus a grounding army green. As with Lyric Stripe, Annie styled the Lyric Paisley duvet with white sheets,a stone matelassé coverlet, and some quilted, sky blue shams. The walls are white for this combo, but Annie brought in some tangerine accessories to keep the room from looking too stark.

Then she went full-on hue happy by mixing the Lyric Paisley duvet with art-print sheets in complementary tones (note the white background, which keeps the look from going over the edge), and topping both off with a cushy matelassé sham in fuchsia. For the walls, she opted for a soothing aqua, and added furniture in white with a few bright tangerine accents. We adore this room palette. And every. Last. Detail.

Finally, just to prove that some showstoppers work even better in pairs, she tucked the Lyric Stripe duvet cover and shams over the Lyric Paisley sheets, then added some soft linen shams the color of a tranquil ocean. Annie echoed the blue on the walls, and added tangerine accents in the wall stencil, the night table, and the planter. Breezy with a boho twist: done.
