Five questions with Henry Hildreth of Hildreth’s Home Goods, America’s oldest home decor store.
Established in 1842, Hildreth’s Home Goods is the country’s oldest and the Hamptons’ largest home decor shop, featuring interior and exterior home furnishings and accessories. The store, which has an on-staff ASID-certified interior designer, also boasts a plethora of departments, from bed and bath to glassware, hostess gifts, children’s clothing, rugs, and sewing supplies. We chatted with 13th-generation owner Henry Hildreth.
I got into home design and décor because: my family has owned the business since 1842; it’s the oldest interior and exterior furnishings store in the country.
My store philosophy is: coastal casual.
My favorite current trend is: beachy, light colors.
My favorite item in my home is: the double-faced fireplace. It’s nice to relax by in the fall and winter.
I can’t live without: my oldest daughter, my youngest daughter, my son, my wife, and my surfboard.
