Guest Post from Julieann of CreateGirl—and a Giveaway!

Good morning, everyone! I am Julieann from Jace Interiors and the CreateGirl blog. I love sharing tips for easy and affordable decorating, so when the Fresh American team asked me to contribute, I jumped at the chance. With spring at our doorsteps, I thought it would be fun to pass on quick “switch-outs” with you!

In the winter we are constantly layering to get that cozy feel, but with spring it is all about editing and eliminating. Every room in your home can get a pick-me-up by just changing out an item or two. I promise you will love that “new room” feel!

The easiest wake-up call for the bathroom is to replace your shower curtain with something bright and happy. You will be amazed at how quickly this can change the overall feel of the room

In several rooms, including the dining room, I often replace heavy window panels, which keep out winter drafts, with something lighter, like a linen or pure cotton. A new favorite for spring 2013 is Pine Cone Hill’s Veena Blue Window Panel. I love the breezy-feeling pattern! Remember to mount your hardware a few inches outside the molding to let in as much light as possible.

An easy way to add color to your kitchen is by switching out your chair cushions and runners with ones that are bright and cheerful! Tip: search for outdoor cushions, which can be used inside; they are often very colorful and are super easy to wipe down. By the way, that rug in the photo is Aquinnah from Annie’s own Dash & Albert Rug Company!

The living room is my favorite place to make the seasonal switch! If I have been living with lots of color, I tend to clear all of the throws and pillows and pick a two-color palette, most often blue and white. Or vice versa if I have been living with two colors; then it is time to inject some pattern and brights!

Don’t forget your accessories, which can be inexpensive if you look at what might be right out your front door! Add seashells and fun-colored blooms to your end tables—it’s an easy way to brighten up any room!

Annie has been so kind to offer you all a giveaway, and I have chosen Dash & Albert’s Aquinnah rug—the same one pictured in the kitchen above, in 4’ x 6’—to spruce up your house. That’s more than $100 value! To enter, just leave a comment below on where you would use this rug in your home! The giveaway ends at 11:59 p.m. EST on Friday, March 22.

Congratulations to our winner, Rachel from California!

Thanks to Annie and everyone at Fresh American for allowing me to share ideas on getting that new-room feel—I had so much fun! Please pop over and see me at CreateGirl and follow me on Twitter for more affordable home décor items and tips on decorating your house. Happy spring!

We are building a small tree house above a carport in the redwoods of California. I’ve been looking at colors that compliment the green forest of the redwoods and the beautiful blue skies outside that you can see from the deck. Your rug looks like great quality and love the stripes and colors. We are trying to source all our furnishings from found sources and things we have that go with the blue green theme of the woods and nature. I believe in your quality of your furnishings and would enjoy having this colorful rug to enhance our tree house. If you would like I can send you pictures of it, it is just getting textured today and we hope to start painting it soon. Could use some ideas on colors for this unique small great tree house. Trying hard to keep it light and have some colorful fun looks also. Thanks for your ideas. Cheers, Lynn

I would layer this rug over my blue and white striped Dash and Albert rug! We also have a multi-color runner in the kitchen, so this would make me a true Dash and Albert superfan 😉

laura March 19, 2013 at 10:57 am

Now that my sons are grown we have been in house-recovery repaint/repair mode (raising 4 sons takes it’s toll!) This rug would look amazing in my hall or in my bedroom! I love it! 🙂

Katy Kelley March 19, 2013 at 11:36 am

I would use it in the bathroom that we are remodeling with old barn wood and a sliding barn door. Thanks!

Sandy March 19, 2013 at 12:12 pm

I just moved into my new home which is builder “blah blah” beige and I am starting from scratch in decorating.(more daunting than I ever imagined) I love and have Dash and Albert pillows in other rooms and have been scoping out this rug to begin my den transformation! It has that relaxing coastal feel that my little “den” could use!

Sue March 19, 2013 at 12:47 pm

My hubby and I are renovating our lakeside home, this rug could live anywhere!

Chrissy March 19, 2013 at 1:20 pm

In front of my kitchen sink to replace my old and tired Dash and Albert Rug!

Mary March 19, 2013 at 8:45 pm

The laundry room! I’m planning a cheerful laundry room makeover, and when I’m finished, I think it’s going to be my favorite room in the house. I’m planning shades of blue and green, and this charming cheerful rug would be the perfect finishing touch!

KAREN COGBURN March 20, 2013 at 10:13 am

Perfect for my kitchen. These are the exact colors in my breakfast room & kitchen. Lovely!!

Debbi Hicks March 20, 2013 at 10:16 am

It would be a difficult choice because I have a few options but I am thinking on the enclosed sunporch the colors would look amazing and greet our guests with style! (Second Choice ~ reading are of our very long living room to help define the space we have hardwoods and haven’t found the right rug yet ~ this is it! The stripes run in the correct direction.) Maybe I could move it between the two!

Beth Barrington March 20, 2013 at 10:20 am

This colorful runner would become the star of my entry hall. I don’t live on a beach, but I can still easily have the beach look with a little D & A! The colors are so beautiful – they remind me of beach glass.

Rebekah P March 20, 2013 at 10:21 am

It would go well in a number or rooms but I really need to spruce up my entry way so that is where I would put it. 🙂

Erin March 20, 2013 at 10:21 am

I would use it in my entry hall for a nice pop of color.

I would give this to my daughter; that just moved into a new apartment. She has a sunroom that this rug would be perfect for!

Valerie Avedon Gardiner March 20, 2013 at 10:53 am

Finally, a picture-perfect runner to complement the family of colors I fell into with the purchase of a new home in Florida. The wild kitchen back-splash tile has been a challenge to my color palette sensibilities. Have searched for rugs that a busy household with pets is not afraid to use. This D&A runner is definitely in the “running.”

Diane Anderson March 20, 2013 at 11:36 am

House built in 1929 w/ old fashioned turquoise tile trim. This rug would look fantastic in there!

April March 20, 2013 at 11:54 am

My kitchen! What a breath of spring!

Kathy March 20, 2013 at 11:55 am

Anita K March 20, 2013 at 12:03 pm

I would use it in my family room. Love the look and colors of their rugs. Thanks for the opportunity to enter.

Adriane March 20, 2013 at 12:05 pm

This rug would be perfect for my hallway. The current rug in there is an old hand-me-down and it’s hideous! Plus, it’s got a snag and every time I vacuum it, it unravels!

amy williams March 20, 2013 at 12:38 pm

In my kitchen. I love Dash and Albert Rugs!

Susie March 20, 2013 at 12:43 pm

I would put this in my guest bedroom. With the sand colored walls, the white trim and the white furniture … it would make the room pop! And it incorporates all the colors of the natural accessories and paintings I already have in the room and love in nature … sand, stem green, South Florida ocean water blues and turquoise :-). It’s the perfect rug.

Lonnie LaMontagne March 20, 2013 at 12:55 pm

I would love to see this rug in the entry way of our Cabin # 10 a wonderful 1950’s cabin at our summer lake resort (Burntside Lodge) in Ely, Minnesota on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. We renovated this cabin top to bottom, inside out last summer to give it the personality it was lacking. The bright colors, the stripes would kick it up another notch and be summer-fun.

Plus, the guests who see it will love it and then hopefully come into our gift shop to order or purchase one to take home.

Keeping my fingers crossed … and double crossed! Thank you for the brilliant colors and ideas!

Fawn March 20, 2013 at 12:56 pm

I would use the rug in my living room. I have been
searching for one and think this would be perfect!!

Catherine March 20, 2013 at 1:26 pm

Susan Geller March 20, 2013 at 5:40 pm

This colorful rug would brighten up my bedroom.

Patrick March 20, 2013 at 9:24 pm

Anne B. March 20, 2013 at 11:06 pm

Wonderful spring tones, perfect for the my ‘garrett’…. men have a man cave- I took over the attic, with the crisp cream walls, this would inject a breath of spring.

Carey Elizabeth March 21, 2013 at 9:01 am

I have been landlocked for my entire life until my move to the coast of Massachusetts. My little home by the sea has a vintage feel and mixes well with my eclectic sense of decor. I like the nautical surprises strategically and lovingly placed by my best friend and designer, Machi. This rug belongs in my kitchen!! It would add just the right amount of “pop”!!

Hope y’all are having a great week!!

drtvrmoi March 21, 2013 at 6:07 pm

It’s the colors of my summer home. That rug would be perfect in my breakfast room

June March 22, 2013 at 8:41 pm

We are moving into a small apartment in DC this summer and this would wake up any room ( bc apartments are all beige, right?) but I think the kitchen would be the perfect place for a rug this size.

RIECA March 22, 2013 at 10:33 pm

i would love this rug. the colours match my coastal feeling in my house. I think it would brighten up my entrance and make a wonderful cheery first impression.
