Good on Paper: Wallpapers with Wow Factor

Make a unique statement with wallpaper in sensational colors and patterns.

Yeah, yeah. We’ve heard the arguments against wallpaper before: It’s time consuming to put up. It can easily be damaged by accidental furniture bumps. It’s more of a commitment than paint.

To which we say: But it’s worth it. So can paint. And, sure, but it also lasts longer, and it’s a bigger, bolder, character-making statement, especially in an Everyday Exuberance setting.

Taking the wallpaper plunge isn’t as hard as it seems. Start by doing a little research to find colors, prints, and textures that fit your aesthetic. For this living room, we went with a birch-tree motif on apple-green paper. When the walls are this eye-catching, the furniture and accessories should be more understated, so we selected armchairs and lamps in a similar shade of green, a neutral coffee table, and airy glass end tables. The rug has three shades of green that complement the wallpaper, while adding a bit of warm orange to the mix. The atomic pink sofa—piled with a riot of pillows that pick up on colors in other elements of the room—and robin’s-egg blue accessories help avoid the dreaded matchy-matchy syndrome.

This is such a cheerful room. I love the birch wallpaper, the pink sofa, the throw pillows, the green lamps, the green chairs, and the potted plants. (I am not crazy about the holes in the legs of the white table, but I am only mentioning that so you know I am sincere about the things I do like. 🙂
