We’ve had our disagreements in the past with some of the leading trend forecasters’ so-called colors of the year (Sand Dollar, anyone?), but we were pleasantly surprised when Pantone’s 2016 hue picks popped up in our in-box. While pink and blue might seem at the outset like a been there; done that . . . in the nursery, for about a zillion years choice, we’re loving the intense, saturated take on both hues, and think they’re a terrific starting point for a sophisticated, grown-up room palette.
Serenity, a cool and soothing blue with a distinct lavender undertone, is not only instantly eye-catching, but also surprisingly versatile—one peek at Pantone’s suggested color pairings, including both pastels and richer hues, and you’ll see how well it works year-round. Rose Quartz, by contrast, is a warmed-up shade of pink that lends an easy, welcoming vibe to a room. The combination has an airy, ethereal quality that does more to foster a sense of tranquility than any Keep Calm and Carry On poster ever could.
