Wearable Art: Melissa Matsuki Lillie

How many times have you looked at a piece of art and thought, That would make an amazing scarf? Okay, it doesn’t often happen to us, either, but that’s exactly how Annie’s design-happy brain works. And when she spied several contemporary paintings by artist Melissa Matsuki Lillie—who also happens to the visual stylist here at Fresh American HQ—she immediately set to work translating the pieces into a trio of showstopping wool and cotton scarves.

Melissa’s art—characterized by explosions of abstract forms, bold colors, and layers of detail—has a lightness and a flow that makes it perfect for textile renderings. Her paintings and the scarves they inspired will be on exhibit at the upcoming summer art show at Stonover Farm. The opening party on July 19 is a don’t-miss event and space is limited, so get your tickets now.  And while you’re at it, stop by Melissa’s website to view even more of her gorgeous work.

These are gorgeous scarves! I’ve always wanted to see scarves with old botanical prints on them. I’d definitely wear those!
