T-Shirt Chic with Anna Bruce

We’re big believers in the power that beautiful clothes have to make you feel confident and incredible. But we also love the simplicity and comfort factor of throwing on a great T-shirt with a blazer or jacket and our favorite jeans for everything from casual days at the office to date night. And while there are tons of designer brands that have major cool quotient, these days, we’re looking to fashion designers who make clothes that not only look great but are also earth friendly. Enter Anna Bruce, maker of hip, fun embroidered T-shirts and kids’ products that are crafted of eco-conscious organic cotton.

A California native, Anna earned a degree in fashion design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco. She spent some time working in the fashion industry in New York City, and was even a costume designer for off-Broadway theater.

The call of the coastline brought her back to California, and she settled in Mill Valley, just north of San Francisco, to focus on working with eco-friendly fabrics. At first it was all about making creative gifts for friends and family, but her designs caught on and she drew a loyal local following. She launched the Anna Bruce line of T-shirts and onesies, which both allows her to indulge in her love of fabric art—using certified 100 percent organic cotton and low-impact dyes—and to create a business that leaves a light footprint on the earth.

We love that Anna’s T-shirts are lightweight, soft, and have a curve-flattering fit. But our favorite part is the fun embroidery—whether of San Francisco landmarks, cute animal motifs, or abstract shapes and patterns. It’s that extra something under a cardigan or leather jacket that makes a simple outfit feel special and customized just for us.
