Finding CommonGround

As certified food fanatics, we spend tons of time trying new dishes, trolling farmers’ markets, haunting the best local dining spots, and surfing online for the latest recipes. And we’re lucky to have lots of reliable resources in our region for asking about where all those goodies are grown and raised. But what do you do when you have questions about food and aren’t sure where to turn? CommonGround to the rescue.

We first came across CommonGround at the recent BlogHer Food 2013. Staffed by female farmers who volunteer their time, the organization is all about opening a dialogue between women who grow food and the women who buy it. By sorting through a variety of myths and facts, and by offering information on both the science of and their personal experience with agriculture, they help consumers find the straight-dirt answers about GMO foods, the use of antibiotics and hormones in livestock, animal welfare, corporate farming, local and organic foods, food safety, and food pricing. We appreciate their nonjudgmental mission, which allows the consumer to make her own decisions, as well as their fun videos on farm life and their tasty recipes like Grilled Corn on the Cob with Thyme and Roasted Red Pepper Butter, and Lamb Arugula Salad with Blackberry Vinaigrette.

Even if you’re pretty knowledgeable about food, we guarantee you’ll find something new and interesting on CommonGround’s website. You can also sign up for their “fearless food” newsletters, which help streamline both sides of the food debate and help you make the best choices for you and your family.
