Connoisseurs of Kleenex

By now you’ve probably heard the less-than-encouraging news that flu season has struck early and hard this year. Having taken our own licking from the bug here at Fresh American HQ, we’ve become connoisseurs of Kleenex, with ensuing—and heated—water-cooler debates about whose nose wipes are the best, softest, most durable, and so forth. To help you get through flu season a little easier, we present our staff’s tops in tissues. And if you’re a diehard design lover who can’t bear to look at those utilitarian tissue boxes, never fear; we’ve also rounded up a bunch of cute covers that might just make your bout of sniffles feel a bit less dreary.

The Winner: Kleenex Cool Touch

These tissues, made with a “proprietary blend of ingredients,” purportedly (perhaps magically?) “release cooling comfort” when they come in contact with your hot, sneeze-fatigued nose. We thought Annie was their biggest fan, but our photographer Sean says, “Kleenex cool touch has no competition. I welcome the sniffles.” Meanwhile, shipping manager Jay, who is clearly gunning for a lucrative endorsement deal, offers this testimonial: “They are freakishly cool and soothing.”

First Runner-Up: Puffs Plus Lotion and Puffs Plus Lotion with the Scent of Vicks

As it turns out, the often-controversial Puffs—they’re greasy! They’re pricey! They get lotion all over your fingers and glasses!—have quite the following at Fresh American. Sales support manager Kate calls them “worth the expense,” while quality-control guru Mark swears, “They’re the only ones that will not make your nose red and sore.” Bonus: they come in a variety of adorably printed packages.

Second Runner-Up: Inexpensive recyclables and . . . toilet paper

While we’re fortunate enough to have one of the most style-conscious staffs in the biz, when some of us get sick, we’re too brain-dead or loopy on Nyquil to notice what we’re blowing our noses on. (Secure the pets!) Blog editor Robin likes these cheapies from Green Forest, which make her feel like she’s doing a little something for the environment (in addition to gifting it with her virulent paper waste, of course), while brand manager Jess admits to toting around a roll of TP when Uncle Flu pays a visit.

You should never ever clean your glasses with any paper product, unless you like scratches on them. Always use a soft cloth.
