Time and Again: William’s Ageless Appeal

Sometimes we get caught up in an exciting trend without really thinking about whether it will still be relevant in 10 or 20 years, but as Annie likes to remind us, “Great design is timeless.” One look at the William duvet and shams, part of the Pine Cone Hill 20th Anniversary Collection, and you’ll know exactly what she means.

Originally inspired by a circa-1850 English document, this pattern is a nod to lush antique botanical illustrations, with a few contemporary updates. The army green and tan color palette has been perked up with ebullient reddish-pink accents, and the smooth cotton with self-piped edges gives the duvet a clean-lined, unfussy feel. Although we could easily see this duvet on the set of a period piece like a Room with a View or Downton Abbey, we love how simple it is to modernize William’s look by pairing him with a tailored matelassé coverlet and shams (here Annie went with a saturated brick); a dramatically ruffled neutral bedspread and shams; and an arresting geometric jute area rug.

Easy and upscale, and at home in vintage, modern, or eclectic décor styles: yep, we’d say that William fits the definition of timeless pretty nicely.

Beautiful. This would also go well with the “Out of Africa” set photo you had posted a few days ago.
