London’s Color of the Moment: Electric Blue

Just a couple of weeks ago, Annie crossed the pond for a bit of business. As is often the case, she came across a variety of inspirations during her travel. She didn’t, however, expect to find said inspiration in the form of a 15-foot-tall, electric blue rooster perched atop Trafalgar Square in London.

Meet Hahn/Cock (see number 16 below), a fiberglass sculpture by German artist Katharina Fritsch, which was first unveiled last summer on the fourth plinth, a large stone pedestal originally created for a statue of William IV that never came to pass in the funding department, and has since been set aside for rotating art displays. Fritsch considers Hahn/Cock a feminist work, since she, a female artist, is depicting something male and the surrounding area has what she deems a “strongly male character,” with lots of angular buildings and male statues.

Annie was taken with how the sculpture stands out among the square’s many shades of grey, and couldn’t help but notice that London’s street fashionistas also seem to be taken with it, and were sporting this remarkable cobalt hue on everything from cashmere sweaters to platform brogues. So she pulled together these picks based on the color:
