Guest Stylist: Erin Gates of Elements of Style

Interior designer, author, and blogger Erin Gates knows a thing or two (or a dozen) about luxurious bed dressing. So when she added a new master suite onto her house, she had a few style rules in mind: the bedding had to be simple, calming, and easy to layer. She also had a penchant for white, which she uses in almost all of her bedroom designs.

Enter Annie Selke Luxe coordinates, which fit the bill perfectly. She started by topping the Piazza sheeting—in bright white with sandy-hued appliqued banding—with a matching duvet. “It’s such a strong base,” Erin notes. “You can layer it with different decorative pillows in completely different colors, or you can coordinate with other whites.” To make those bright whites pop against her ivory headboard, and to add another tonal note to the layered neutrals in the room, she chose tailored Euro shams in a gentle wheat hue.

“I love that this look is year-round,“ Erin shares. “Because my husband tends to get warm at night, I don’t usually layer coverlets—I often go for just sheets and a duvet. I’m also not big on changing up a bedding look seasonally; I just layer on new coordinates and accessories. With this look, I can add in a throw for fall, or a faux fur blanket can winterize it in a single step.”
